As I'm writing this the snow is almost gone. We couldn't be happier. This weekend we gave winter one last big hurrah!
Here's 2 videos of Penelope sledding. There were many great runs in between. You see the first slow careful one and then the daredevil ending one.
Hard to believe a year ago Penelope had only been walking for a week. We've moved from the toddler playground to the big kid playground. Sorry it is so long...I need to find a way to edit!
I love that Chris looks like an olympic coach on the sidelines ready to spot the gymnast if she needs it.
On Sunday we went to the other playground in our neighborhood.

This is a really cool spinning chair...my mom would call it a vestibular exercise.
Penelope tackling the ropes course.
Daddy made it to the top. Pretty crazy equipment, huh? Surprising that is allowed in this day of over the top safety rules for kids.

Oh my gosh I can't believe how cute she is. Watching her little face after sledding just melted my heart. AND my heart stopped when I watched her on the big kid ladder on the playground. Oh my gosh playgrounds make me so nervous! I try really hard not to be one of those moms that hover....I'm just so afraid Collin is going to fall off one of the drop offs or something. But man Penny is a big girl! She did so well on that thing!!
I can't wait until Collin can talk too for the very reason you mentioned. I think it will help alleviate a lot of his frustration. But he is SOOOOOOO slow on that developmental scale. He never says a word on his own (except maybe "drink" which is "deeeeee!!!" and dada), but he'll repeat at least 10 words we say to him. He does have his sign language but most of it refers to food or eating. He did just say "baby" the other day and has been doing a really good attempt at saying "sister" (sounds like "der der")....but I'm about as worried about him talking as you were about Penelope walking last year. The ped isn't worried so I'm trying not to be. One thing he does do is have full on conversations with us. It' just in Collin language. He'll go on and on and use hand gestures and facial expressions and everything that go along with what he's saying. Then he'll pause and wait for a response from us (which we usually say something like "oh really? That's so interesting. Then what did you do?" and then he'll keep going and going). I think talking will come eventually though.
Elle is doing so much better! I have been reading "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" (lame-o title I know) but it's SOOO good! Kinda structured like Babywise, but much more lenient and she's not into crying it out (which I'm not necessarily opposed to anyway, but if I can avoid her crying from the start, than that's a good thing!) She's been putting herself to sleep the last 4 nights and last night she slept from 8:30PM-3:30AM, woke up to eat, then slept from 3:45AM-7:00AM!! And ever since I started being more hardcore about my scheduling she has been so happy all day! Hardly any crying. I think I had just forgotten what Collin was like as a newborn and was used to where he is developmentally and expected her to be in line with that. But thank you, yes, she is doing much better!
(Sorry I wrote so much...I should have just emailed you!)
I really like those mittens. I see Penny uses them more as a fashion accessory than something to keep her hands warm. She really is becoming a Minnesotan.
But WOW! this is the end of March. Much too late to have that much snow and cold.
So big and so cute!!!!! Loved the sledding......I can identify with the tree thing......(ya', that's what happened....that explains a lot, doesn't it?) What fun equipment.....that rope ladder is amazing.....all that snow and we've already had a 90 degree day and will have another one tomorrow....way too early......enjoy the spring headed your way......
I'm with Papa John....love the mittens as a fashion accessory ;-)
