33 week picture (taken on cell phone...sorry for the quality)
Okay, so I think this is the longest blog ever...first I wanted to invite everyone to vote in our new poll about the expected arrival of Don Juan. (And to those lurking out there, it is anonymous so I won't even know it was you who voted) I will say that comments like "Well, by the looks of you, you'll never make it to your due date" are unnecessary, thank you. I'm receiving a few of those in real life so I hope my cyber commenters will be kinder. :)
This week was filled with baby stuff! Chris and I had our breastfeeding class...which went over the 3 hours. Who knew there would be videos (played back in small motion), plush anatomically-correct breasts, and even position practice with baby dolls?! I think the most beneficial information that was said over and over was "contact the lactation consultants at the hospital"
Then on Wednesday morning we went on a tour of a day care. I had never been inside a day care so I was unsure how I would feel. I love this place! It is a bilingual school and we saw the toddlers and preschoolers speaking in english and spanish to each other and the teachers. They make all the food there, including baby food all from fresh fruits and veggies mainly supplied by local farms. Plus, not only will they do cloth diapers, they use their own cloth diapers on every child no matter if you do them at home or not. So I will only have to wash the ones at home! I do have to find a backup plan though because the wait list is so long they have a lottery for infant spots. Chris also was very impressed and said "we've set the bar too high. You are going to be disappointed with everything else we see" I expect he is right, but I plan to keep Don Juan on the waiting list and we will move him/her when a spot opens.
That evening the women at my work threw a baby shower. It was at a great restaurant and we had a wonderful time. My good friend Lacey organized everything and made the beautiful diaper cake below.
This weekend I found quite a few exciting baby/kids shops, including a book store called The Wild Rumpus Room. It is a huge children's book store and they have live animals everywhere...cat, chickens, chinchillas, ferrets, doves and more. Plus, great puppets and places for kids to sit and read. It is my new favorite store at 26 years old. I can't imagine how much I would have loved it as a kid. It will be so much fun to go there with Chris and Don Juan.We also visited a store in St. Paul called Peapods. We've been recommended to this store by many people. They had a great selection of different types of cloth diapers, some handmade wool covers and all different baby slings. It was nice to actually see things in person and not online.
Then today we did a trip to IKEA. Despite our vow to ourselves that we are going to buy "real" furniture that comes put together on a delivery truck, we continue to support the people of Chris's ancestors. I can't pass up the price or simple designs! We bought some curtains and a bookcase. Chris hadn't planned on putting anything together today, but this nesting instinct waits for no one! I started measuring and cutting the curtains, but got so frustrated Chris took that over and I assembled the bookcase. This was my first time to assemble furniture on my own. Usually Chris is in charge and I find everything very unorganized. This time I started out by putting out all of the little pieces and matching them with the directions. Still ended up missing stuff, but we had leftovers from past IKEA projects (maybe that's why my dresser drawers are not staying together?!)
Yea! I have something that looks like a bookcase!
Me with the new curtains and the finished bookcase. Look at Don Juan's library! Quite a lot of books, but tons of room to add more.
