Drop, baby, drop!!

It seems Don Juan is quite content in utero. This week my dr. discussed the chance of c-section to get me mentally prepared. Of course, all we want is a healthy baby, but I'm still hoping that we don't have to deal with a hostage sitatuion with this little one and s/he will drop down soon. As of now it looks like Labor Day will be pretty quiet...although, today I did go play mini-golf. Both times my mom went into labor she played 18 holes of golf that day. I've never played real golf and didn't think today would be the day to start, but I thought putt putt might do the trick. We headed to the Walker Art Center. They have a temporary course built by artists...the holes were really cool looking, but we're unsure if the artists have ever played mini golf because many of these were impossible! It still was a lot of fun and a beautiful day to be outside.

Lacey putts at the Paul Bunyan hole. This was definitly one of the easiest.
This one was pretty ridiculous.
Fun idea in concept...you put your ball in the tube, rode the bike to toss it into the pinball machine and then used the brakes to work the pinball machine...problem was the brakes were broken. Next year we should go when the course first opens as there were broken parts throughout many of the holes.
At the end of the course. Didn't realize how ridiculous I must have looked trying to putt around that belly until I saw this picture!

A Silly Sunday

On Sunday Chris took his mom and sister to the state fair, also known as "The Great Minnesota Get Together." I chose to relax at home and do some shopping. When I returned around 1 pm I found 3 tired fairgoers with circus stomach. I asked "what did you eat?" and I got tons of groans. Last year when we went Chris had our fair share of fried food on a stick, but they were much more daring. Here are a few examples...tiny tim donuts, fried spam, chocolate malt shake, cheese curds, tatertot hot dish on a stick. They did bring me a whole tub of chocolate chip cookies (which Chris has now hidden), a tshirt, and poetry on a stick. Chris did say "We didn't see the onion rings till the very end and I just couldn't do it" I guess that could be called moderation? :) Needless to say we had a big salad that night for dinner.

After the state fair we went to the sculpture garden. Good thing it is a pretty open place because we were all a bit goofy. It was lots of fun as you can see below.

Me laughing at a joke that is inappropriate for the blog.

I was trying to teach Don Juan how to play hide and seek but s/he obviously didn't really get it.

"Oh, you found us!"

Pictures by Laura Strand

Here are some pictures Laura took after the shower. She always takes great pictures of us and we have a lot of fun during her "photo shoots"

(Chris was just kicked by Don Juan)
The car seat is installed. Pooh is safe and sound.
Another busy eventful weekend! The future grandma from NY and soon to be Aunt Laura came to visit along with Great Grandma Strand and Great Aunt Carolynne. All of the MN family threw a wonderful shower. Don Juan got some wonderful gifts. It was nice to see everyone. Here are some pictures from the past few days. Chris and his mom at Loring Pasta Bar

Old friends, new places

This weekend Davida visited me and Chris. We have been friends since middle school. I was able to show her Minneapolis in high style since we went to Glamorama, a concert/fashion show/party that benefits Children's Cancer Research Fund. Of course, I got many comments about "being ready to pop" and out at a huge party. Here are pics:

A night on the town...It looks almost exactly like our homecoming pictures 12 years ago! (Well, except for the obvious bump!)
The 80s theme took us right back to our elementary school days.
Heading up to the party on top of Macy's roof.

Yes, that is us with M.C. Hammer. We look a little excited, eh?

The next day I took Davida along the Mississippi river and then to Minnehaha Falls.

The wading pool was very refreshing.

That night in Uptown after dinner at Amazing Thailand. (Chris was attempting to be the Mary Tyler Moore statue that's downtown :)

A day of pampering and being green

So today was pretty busy but great. I started by getting a hair trim. It is growing so fast! My nails are strong and wonderful now too...does this part really have to go away? Then Chris and I went to this green products store I've wanted to go too. I found the detergent I've been ordering online and a composter on sale. Yea!! Then after some more shopping and a quick nap I headed to a neonatal massage. This was my first professional massage. It was nice, but I think I feel more energized/relaxed after a good yoga class or bike ride around the lake. It did feel wonderful on my lower back but the aches are already returning so I'll be swimming tomorrow.
After the massage I put the composter together. Here we are putting in the first banana peel and leaves: :)

This week I started washing the baby clothes and cloth diapers. I was a little afraid that these bulky cloth diapers would never fit in the teeny newborn clothes so Chris's pooh bear was used as a guinea pig.

Dr. Seuss cover with prefold
Okay, so it probably would not work for Pooh's little torso, but I expect our baby will be a little bit longer
Yay! All dressed up :)
Oh, and I know I've gone on and on about these amazing newfangled one size diapers that are so different then the kinds with pins. I've read that the one size bum genius usually work best starting at 11 lbs and go to toddler so I needed something for the first month and didn't want to spend as much as the Bum Genius for a short time. The type pictured are kind of a blend of old and new...a prefold diaper that slides into a cover. I also have some newborn fitteds which are easy snap fleece cloth diapers.

(And yes, I know in a few weeks I'll look back and think "I had time to dress up a stuffed animal?! What was wrong with me? Why wasn't I sleeping?!")
