My favorite blog

I don't think I'm biased. This is my brother Christopher's and sister in law Jenn's blog. http://hemispherehoppin.blogspot.com.
It is all about their life in Santiago, Chile. They just have a few posts but it has made Chris and I have serious discussions about figuring out a way to visit them while they are in Chile.

So why are they in Chile? You can read his first post titled A Drunken Walk. It is very philosophical and has more 4 syllable words than this mommy blog will ever have. If you have time, it is a good read. If not, I'll paraphrase...Life isn't a straight line, they are young and free, so why not? The plan was to go down there and get jobs, probably teaching english, and stay for a year or so.

Well, my brother owes a retraction on this first post. I'm going to quote Oprah "Luck is 90% hard work and 10% right time right place" (Not sure if that is exactly right, but it describes Christopher). He happened into the right conversation with someone at a get to know other Americans in Chile event or something like that and is now working at an amazing architecture website called archdaily.com writing and compiling great architecture articles. Yes, he went to South America and got a job in his field probably better than any job he could have gotten in the states right now. No drunken path for him...nope, his resume will look like he traveled to Chile for this fantastic job to further his career. Jenn also got a great job teaching english. You can read all about how they spend their work hours in this post

Plus, their apartment is spectacular. And it's summer there. Do you hear that? We could visit next January and experience a 100 degree change from Minneapolis! mmmmm....that sounds like a little bit of wonderful. Well, anyways, if you also want to live a great adventure from your armchair, like I am, you should check out their blog.

Wow. Can I just say that it is really something to read a piece in the voice of "grown up Chris" when the last time I saw him he was probably not even yet in 7th grade? So eloquent! I love reading stuff that flows so well. And I always smile when smart people say "matriculate" when they talk about studying at a University. I definitely admire those two lovebirds and their spontaneity and sense of adventure. Now is definitely the time to do it (although they seem like the type that will be able to successfully raise children with the same sense of adventure while still living in cool random places). I think Brenden and I play it too safe sometimes because we're afraid of the unknown so they are pretty inspiring. Because what opportunities might we be missing out on when we hold back because we're afraid of what we can't forsee? Those two are amazing!

Aw and I feel special that I knew Jay T. What a sweet boy I remember him being!

Thanks for the very kind blog post laura. We would be more than happy to have you with us here in Chile! We know how difficult it to get to summer from minneapolis so we understand if you can't. We really should have started a blog when we lived in Toledo, Ohio last year. Perhaps we could have convinced you visit us there. Or maybe its not my writing?

Nikki thanks for the very nice compliments. I wouldn't exactly call 2 little ones playing it safe. Taking on that responsibility is far more courageous than galavanting around south america for a year. We all have different adventures. That being said, you are more than welcomed to visit us. It is far less intimidating when you know someone that can show you the ropes.

Whenever I read Christopher's blog, I feel like I'm living vicariously through him. And, the pictures are just gorgeous. Chile looks amazing, although, I think it was particularly hard to take when we were in the middle of snow and winter :) It's so nice to be able to keep in touch with everyone so much better now than while we were growing up (what with the very rare letter sent across the country :).
