- I have an elephant's memory about my childhood but I could not tell you where I put my work badge a half hour ago.
- When I'm really nervous I talk fast and smile a lot. Now you might think I must be nervous all the time, but there's a nervousness level that Chris and my sister are able to sense right when it happens and give me the "calm down" look.
- I won second place in a sprint triathlon during college. There were only 2 in my age group, but hey, I got a medal.
- I know nothing about 80's or early 90's TV and pop culture. Chris calls it my "amish years". What can I say? We didn't have TV and we were in a ridiculous amount of activities.
- Speaking of activities here is everything I tried by the 7th grade: ballet, tap, jazz, gymnastics, violin, tae kwon do, acting, sign language, drums, ice skating, horse back riding, and softball.
- I've only kept in touch with one friend from my high school graduating class in Virginia. He's my husband.
- I don't know what to tell people when they ask where I'm from...I've now lived more years outside of AZ than I lived there. Should I say Minneapolis since it was the last place I lived?
- I'm a very bad drunk. I get horribly emotional and sit in a corner and cry. People think I'll be fun, but let me tell you, I'm not fun. I can count on one hand the times I've been drunk because of this.
- I know I'm 4'10'', but I don't really know it. Any time I see someone as short as me I nudge Chris and whisper "hey, do I look that short?!"
- I'd rather go to a museum and shopping by myself. I also am torn between seeing shows by myself or with friends. Some of my favorite memories in NY are going to the ballet at the Met by myself.
- I don't know how to keep Penelope occupied for multiple hours at home. By 10:00 on Saturday and Sunday we are either running errands or at the park. I'd be a terrible stay-at-home mom. We'd end up spending money at Target every day and Penelope would be enrolled in every activity under the sun (hey, sort of like my childhood and I loved my mom)
- Speaking of my mom, in the 4th grade I gave her 1/2 of a Best Friends Forever necklace. She still has it.
- I have not gone grocery shopping by myself in 2 years. We usually go as a family or Chris goes by himself.
- Chris has not spent a night away from Penelope since we brought her home from the hospital. I remember when Robin Williams said this in Mrs. Doubtfire and even at 12 years old I thought that was impossible. Since I travel for work and gone on girls weekends I've been away 14 days.
- I like naps...or maybe you knew that?
- I was really mean to my dad for about 6 years. Think silent treatment from age 12-18. Now I talk to him at least once a week and almost always ask for advice.
- I decided not to be a teacher after 3 weeks of student teaching and have not once regretted that decision.
- I'm very messy. Every Friday I spend the evening picking up clothes from the week and promising myself that the next week I won't drop my clothes on the floor. The pants and shirt I wore today are on the floor of my room.
- I love being a mom, even to a very challenging spitfire. Or maybe I'm on the weakling side of mothers. I become pretty sure of this when I talk to moms who have many kids. It makes me want a nap.
- I hate the saying "You can't have your cake and eat it too" What the heck would I want to do with cake besides eat it! If I don't eat it, it will go bad. It should be "you can't have your cake and your skinny jeans too" I can't tell you how many times I've brought this up to Chris.
- I also hate the word random. If you were in my head you would know there was a logical reason why I said something. It was not random.
- Chris made a savory waffle with fried egg for my 31st birthday dinner tonight. Now I'm going to go eat my birthday cake...good thing I don't have any skinny jeans in the closet...or rather the floor of the closet.

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU TOO LAURA!!!! :) Nikki just mentioned to me that it was your birthday as well! And I was just telling her what an amazing memory you have.
I didn't know a lot of those things that you mentioned in your post...I like the new cake a skinny jeans quote that you made up!
Happy birthday!! I love your list so much. Definitely going to have to borrow that idea. :)
Happy Birthday, Laura!! I smiled and laughed through your entire post! Great memories! The closet on the floor is all so Laura!!
Great post. I think the cake and skinny jeans line would be a great one for a notecard :)Sounds like a stellar birthday dinner. Well done Chris.
I love that list. I, too, have never gotten the "have your cake and eat it too" statement. It just doesn't make sense. Who would want cake just to look at it? That sounds worse than not having any at all! Love the skinny jeans twist to it. :)
