Next Step: Preschool

As I walked in the doors of Jardin Magico, the assistant director stopped me to say “Penelope made us all laugh in preschool! All the new kids wore name tags and had to introduce themselves to the older kids. Penelope was the last one and she said “My name is Penelope and my name is Penny. I’m from toddler A class”’ I have to say I love when she says things in full sentences. It happens all the time now, but it still catches me off guard when she puts a whole bunch of thoughts together. The other day she told me to open the cupcake store. I told her it was closed forever and she said “Go home, get your keys and open the cupcake store!”

Back to the first day of preschool…she is actually in the transition phase which means she spends the morning in preschool and the afternoon back in the toddler room. As of September 1st she’ll be a full time preschooler, but for now we still drop her off and pick her up in the toddler room.. When  I went to the toddler room Penelope had to tell me all about preschool. She grabbed my hand and led me to her new classroom where I got to meet one of her new teachers, Christian. He told me that Penelope did great. She loved all the new toys in the room and made friends with the older kids. Her most favorite part was that she got 2 tacos for lunch. I guess in the toddler room she only gets 1. All  afternoon she told her friends and teachers that preschoolers get 2 tacos! She obviously is very excited to grow up. I can’t blame her. Being a preschooler means 2 tacos and extra time on the playground? This growing up thing is pretty exciting.

I hope I can be as good as you are about preschool. *sigh* with back to school in the air it's making me think of when Collin will start and I get choked up every time! We drove by a little girl standing by herself at the bus stop today. She looked so little. After we passed her I told Brenden I didn't want Collin to go to school. I'm going to be a mess. What happens when a bully is mean to him or he feels discouraged and I'm not there to encourage him? Or what about the things I'll miss like the look of excitement he has when he answers a question correctly? I just don't know how I'm going to do it. Be ready for all my emails asking you for advice when that time comes around. Until then I'll just be glad that he's only 2.

At lease you are prepared for her going to preschool. I was crying in the preschool parking lot after I dropped Molly off. She, however, thought it was the best thing since sliced bread! Of course, she doesn't get 2 tacos, I can't imagine how much cooler it would be then!

I'm glad penny's got her priorities straight. Were they hard tacos or soft tacos?
