- They are expensive, even if you don't do a photo card, I think you'd have a hard time keeping your cards under $.80 once you factor in postage. That's pretty spendy, especially if you have a long list. Now since I work in direct mail I need to support the post office and use up all those labels. (If YOU think you get a lot of labels from non-profits you need to come to my house!)
- They aren't green. We could all do e-cards, save paper, fuel to ship them etc, but I'll recycle and continue with my cloth diapers so I don't feel bad about my 50 Christmas cards.
- Not necessary to keep in touch. I remember growing up we'd get a Christmas card and sometimes a letter that told us everything they've been up to. With email and Facebook we are in touch all the time and since I see 200 new photos of all my friends, both old and new, on a monthly basis, even the photo card is somewhat old school.
With all of that you'd think I wouldn't be a fan of Christmas cards, butI've always loved getting mail, even as a kid when everything was for my parents and now when the majority is "junk mail" or bills. So you can understand why Christmas is especially exciting with all these cards of friendship and love. This year I was a little afraid that Christmas cards were finally diminishing. It was a week before Christmas and we had only gotten 3. Then they came in a flurry. Chris saved them for me to open. I love all kinds...the old fashioned ones with manger scenes or new types like the one from my sister in law that just said Scatter Joy, the photo cards with kids, families, dogs. I especially love when people handwrite one or two personal lines, although, I'm sad to say I didn't do that this year. A few years ago I started to keep the photo cards and some of the Christmas cards I absolutely love. I saw a great blog post about turning colorful ones into gift tags so maybe I'll do that when I finally take them down.
Here's my favorite card this year from my brother and his girlfriend. She made it! Isn't it amazing? That's their dog, Basil.
The inside says "We Woof You a Merry Christmas" I wish I had taken a pic of the ornament she made us. This girl desparately needs to start an Etsy store in my opinion.

I especially like the one sitting in the high chair on the far left side of all your cards. That one says Joy to the World like no other.
I love receiving them too, but will have to get my act together next year and actually send some out. I'm thinking Dan and I wearing our matching sweaters from the cheesy sweater party we attended...
I am with you 100% on Christmas cards. I absolutely love them. I didn't send as many this year as I meant to. alas.
Oh I'm so honored we made the top card! Everyone asks what we do on our days off.. well there ya go :) If you can get a picture of cece in the snow (the white background makes it a lot easier to create a silhouette and get the details of the fluffy fur) then i can make a template and print some up for you if you'd like! with or without santa hats.. or birthday hat? or anything! Just let me know!
I also love Christmas cards and was hoping to get a flurry of them this year. We did, but I did also have one friend email hers out to save on postage (boo) and another posted hers via Facebook (double boo!)
And it is ironic, usually by the time I get the Christmas cards w/photos I've already seen the photos of my friends' families and kids via some electronic method, but it's still special to see which ones they pick out as their favorites, that reflect their own funny families.
I also love sending and receiving Christmas cards, I hope the tradition never ends. I have made gift tags from them for the following year, it's great fun and good use of the beautiful cards.
